When you land, make sure to buy either a transfer ticket for your journey or a multi-day pass from the MHD ticket booth in the airport - it's in the main concourse/arrivals area, just after you get through customs. Prices as of January 2009 are 16 czk for a single transfer ticket, 100 for a 24 hour ticket, 330 for a three day pass and 500 for five days. The 3 and 5 day passes include an accompanying child up to 15. Our advice is to buy a pass for the duration of your stay - that way you never have to worry about finding change, or finding somewhere to buy a ticket (tram and bus stops rarely have ticket machines). If you already have change on you, you can buy a ticket at the machine at the airport bus stop.
Next leave the airport and cross to the first traffic island where you can wait for your bus. Buses run regularly throughout the day. As soon as you get on the bus, make sure to validate your ticket, whatever type it is, by inserting it in the direction of the arrows printed on it, or blank end first, into one of the yellow validation points you will find on the bus. You only need to do this once.
Once you are at Dejvicka (the last stop on the bus) head for the stairs down to the metro. If you've got heavy cases there is a lift (elevator) down to the metro station level.
