Pilsner Urquell's Czech name is Plzensky Prazdroj.
The town of Plzen has a brewing tradition stretching back hundreds of years. Pilsner Urquell was first brewed in it's current form, or thereabouts, in 1842. The Brewery in Plzen offers guided tours on weekends from spring to autumn, where you are shown around the brewery, and the tunnels beneath the brewery (not the bottling plant - you have to book ahead in a large-ish group and go a weekday for that). The plant was modernised in the early 1990s, but they still brew batches the traditional way in the tunnels, especially for tour groups to taste. If you're a diehard Prazdroj fan then you shouldnt miss the Pilsner Fest held every October at the brewery.
